- Roubo (French) — A massive, thick-topped bench with a large leg vise on the left front leg and a planing stop at the far end. How it works

Common scenarios
Hand-tool-focused shops — Shops oriented around hand planes, chisels, and saws (hand tools for woodworking) require a bench with high mass, a reliable face vise, and a functional bench dog system. The Roubo configuration dominates this context because its thick top and leg vise handle wide panels and long boards that lighter benches cannot stabilize.
Power-tool and hybrid shops — Shops integrating routers, random-orbit sanders, and benchtop machinery (power tools for woodworking) often prefer the cabinetmaker's bench because its storage cabinet keeps the floor clear of tool tray clutter. The bench functions more as an assembly and finishing surface than as a primary clamping platform.

1. Primary work type
